Around halfway through qualification, this feels like a real do-or-die moment for both sides and these Ireland vs. Netherlands predictions suggest that it will be the Oranje that come away happier.

Ireland vs. Netherlands odds

1 – Netherlands to win – 4/6

2 – Over 2.5 total goals – 13/20

3 – Netherlands to win and both teams to score – 23/10

4 – Netherlands to win 2-1 – 13/2

5 – Ireland to score first – 17/10

Even though the Netherlands will still have half their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign still ahead of them after this one – and Ireland will still have three games to play – this seems like it will be a pivotal moment for both nations.

Stephen Kenny will have known that this was going to be a tough international break, but with the France game still fresh in the memory, his players will need to raise themselves to win at least a point here to keep qualifications hopes alive.

After not qualifying for the last European Championship – and some generally disappointing results and performances since – there has been some improvement recently. But a draw or a win against the Netherlands would really get the nation behind the team once again.

The Netherlands came into this campaign hoping that their own recent disappointments and inability to qualify for major tournaments were behind them. But there is still a sense of disjointedness in the squad and Ronald Koeman’s return was not universally welcomed.

That being said, there should be enough talent in the Oranje side to come away from Dublin with all three points. It may be hard-fought, but a win should be achievable.

There might be some early scares for the Dutch though. They have got into the habit of conceding goals recently and it would not be a surprise if Ireland opened the scoring on the night, with the home fans cheering them on.

Ireland team news

Stephen Kenny was dealt a hammer blow just before the France game with the news that Evan Ferguson would miss both games during this international break. The striker was seen as the main threat for Ireland and Adam Idah will now hold the responsibility of scoring the goals against the Netherlands.

Netherlands team news

With Justin Bijlow injured, Koeman will go back to Andreas Noppert in goal, while hoping that his back four came through the Greece game unscathed. Cody Gakpo should get the nod up front ahead of Wout Weghorst.
