“The coach is the real reason behind the success,” he told Goal Italia. “This group have been playing together for four years and we are practically the same players. There have been some small changes, but we know each other very well.
“The credit is due to the club and the block it has created. We trust Inzaghi and we know that this year we will be able to make the leap in quality that we’ve been waiting for quite a while now.
“Things are going well; we proceed at a high level and we have to maintain it until the end.”
The midfielder has admitted that they were lifted by the win over Juventus in Saudi Arabia and felt the trophy was a “reward” for the groups “excellent season” so far.
But the 27-year-old doesn’t want to talk about Lazio as Scudetto contenders just yet.
“This is the third title here for me, it’s something really special,” he said. “The team are having an excellent season and there was no better gift for Christmas than ending the year with another trophy to reward the group.
“It’s not realistic to think about the Scudetto right now,” he added. “We have to focus on taking one game at a time and, in April, we will evaluate where we are.
“I am sure that if we continue to compete with this winning mentality, our targets will be reached in the end. We can’t afford to take a step back. In the past, we haven’t been good until the run-in. However, I believe we have learned from our previous mistakes and will never repeat them.”
