Simone Inzaghi was “proud” of Lazio for a 2-0 victory over Inter and thanked them for fighting through the pain barrier.

“It’s a great victory and fully deserved, which we needed after the loss to Sampdoria with a missed penalty and a thousand wasted chances,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“We worked hard this week to prepare and I am proud of my lads. What does it mean for my future? I don’t know, I just work with my staff to do our best.

“Apart from the match against Juventus and that bizarre game at Sampdoria, which nine times out of 10 you don’t lose, we’ve had an excellent run of results.

“The credit goes to the players and how willing they were to sacrifice themselves for the team. We had five players who were carrying injuries, but not one asked to be substituted. Some were even in doubt up until this morning.”

Among those in doubt was Miroslav Klose, who opened the scoring with a splendid chip.

“I had Klose for three games and we won all three. A champion like this can shift the balance of a match. I am happy to have him, we’ll see what he decides at the end of the season, but whatever happens I tip my hat to him.”

Another champion was on the touchline, as Inzaghi faced former teammate and Coach Roberto Mancini for the first time as a colleague.

“I would’ve preferred to beat someone else… Roberto was very important to me and if I am here now it’s also because he told Lazio to buy me as a player.”

Inzaghi had a curious anecdote about his dismissal for dissent.

“I didn’t say anything, I didn’t even protest. The last red card I had as a player was from Luca Banti and this was my first as a Coach with him too.”
