Inzaghi was angered by the decision to omit him from the Champions League squad in the summer, while he’s made just three substitute appearances in Serie A this term for a total of 34 minutes.
The World Cup winner, now 38, is keen to end his playing career on the field of play and not in the stands.
In theory, there should be more space for Inzaghi to feature after Antonio Cassano’s recent heart surgery. The latter is expected to be out for the next six months as a result.
However, it is understood that Milan will actually bring in a new striker during the January transfer window to cover for the Italian.
The current favourites for that role are Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez and Maxi Lopez of Catania.
Inzaghi joined the Diavolo in the summer of 2001 after four years with Serie A rivals Juventus.
In 294 games for Milan, he’s netted 125 goals.
