Pippo Inzaghi has given his blessing to new Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini. “He will be my heir and can score 20 goals this season.”

SuperPippo hung up his boots and was suitably impressed by Pazzini’s hat-trick against Bologna.

“I hoped he would arrive, because in my mind he was the centre-forward Milan were missing,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, only someone with Pazzini’s characteristics can score those goals. I know Giampaolo well and we spoke before he signed the contract. He was very fired up.

“I am not surprised he got off to such a good start. He has instinct, can ‘see’ the goal and is very strong in the air. This season he can score 15-20 goals.

“Pazzini arrived at Milan aged 28, just like me. I hope he can have the same good fortune I did.”

Another new striker at San Siro this season is Bojan Krkic, who Inzaghi reveals he is already good friends with.

“I met him two years ago. I was in hospital in Barcelona and he turned up with a friend of mine. He wanted to meet me. Since then, we talk often.”

Inzaghi retired over the summer in order to start a new adventure as Coach of the Rossoneri youth academy, but is keeping a close eye on the senior squad.

“Now I understand that for a Coach it is always difficult to leave someone out. I try to be very honest with my players, as I always had problems with Coaches who didn’t say things to my face.

“I am relaxed on the bench, much more so than when I was a player. I didn’t think I’d be able to remain so calm.”
