Simone Inzaghi explains several Lazio players are on pain-killers after the 2-1 win over Sassuolo and reveals his new contract is ‘ready to sign.’

This was the Aquile’s fifth consecutive victory between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile completed the comeback from a Francesco Caputo opener.

Sassuolo are a very strong team, who play really good football and let’s not forget we played in the Coppa Italia not even three days ago, so it was tough,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s the fifth consecutive victory, we are happy, and even though again we were in an emergency situation with injuries, I have wonderful lads who push past every obstacle.”

That run of wins includes the 3-0 domination of local rivals Roma.

“We all know what the derby means here in Rome. We were very happy, but 48 hours later already had to prepare for the Coppa Italia tie with Parma.

“It’s going to be a busy one again next week, facing Atalanta in both Serie A and the Coppa Italia. That’s what this whole season is like, the fixture list is packed.”

With Luis Alberto out after having his appendix removed, could Joaquin Correa be used in that role?

“We saw last season that Correa can also replace Luis Alberto when needed to, but he’d been out for a month and only made his comeback for 30 minutes midweek.

“He has great technique, is very intelligent and works for the team. Immobile is unable to train consistently, as for two weeks he’s had this problem with his ankle. I rested him against Parma, tonight he played with pain-killing injections, so did Felipe Caicedo, as until this morning we weren’t sure if he could even be on the bench.”

Inzaghi was asked if during this packed fixture list, he will also find time to sign his Lazio contract extension.

“I saw the President yesterday, he told me the contract is ready, so I am waiting to sign.”
