Filippo Inzaghi is buoyant ahead of the Milan derby next weekend, when the Rossoneri may be able to field Riccardo Montolivo.

The midfielder is due to participate in a match against Beretti youth outfit Mantova at the Rossoneri's youth headquarters in Vismara tomorrow.

It would mark his first appearance in 168 days, since sustaining a leg break during Italy's pre-World Cup 2014 friendly stalemate with the Republic of Ireland on May 31.

“His recovery will be our best signing yet,” Inzaghi has told Milan Channel today.

“Montolivo is a difficult player to replace and unfortunately I knew from day one that I wouldn’t have him available for some time, but I have never looked for excuses.

“He’s almost fully recovered so it will be down to me which moment will be right to field him because he is just returning from a long period on the sidelines.

“I don’t know whether he will be able to feature in the derby against Inter – it’s just too soon to say.

“When you have just suffered any injury, every day is a test and we should also check how the fibula reacts. At the moment it’s fine and we’re very happy about it.”
