Simone Inzaghi is torn between celebrating Lazio’s late equaliser and ruing the fact they did not beat Milan. “There are regrets.”

The Aquile snatched a 94th-minute equaliser through Joaquin Correa after Franck Kessie’s deflected strike, yet they had created more chances and held more of the ball.

“Let’s just say we wanted the victory, but considering the way this draw came about, we’ll settle for that,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“Let’s just say we wanted the victory, but considering the way this draw came about, we’ll settle for that,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“There are regrets, as we played a really good game, but we know what football is like. The lads did well to keep their cool, stay in the game and get a deserved equaliser.

“It’s disappointing to only have a point considering the way we approached it. We knew Milan would sit back and wait for us to come forward, but we got the final pass wrong too often and were also unlucky in front of goal.

“That includes our own goal, because I’m not sure Kessie’s attempt was going on target before the deflection. We take the point, but there are regrets.”

Inzaghi was asked why he substituted Sergej Milinkovic-Savic with Jordan Lukaku when it was still 0-0.

“His yellow card did weigh on the decision. We had the game in hand and I was confident we could win, so I didn’t want to risk him getting a second booking.”

The Lazio Coach was sent off for encroachment as he over-celebrated the equaliser, but then took several minutes to be coaxed into leaving his post.

“I didn’t understand why I’d been sent off. Once they explained it to me, I apologised and went off. These things happen. I was passionate about the game and disappointed that my team was losing.”
