Simone Inzaghi maintains Lazio “deserved more, but if you don’t kill games off, anything can happen” after a 2-1 defeat to Genoa.

The Aquile had taken the lead at Marassi through Milan Badelj, but a lucky ricochet off Antonio Sanabria and last-gasp Domenico Criscito daisy-cutter turned it around.

“We are missing many players at the moment, but I said before it should not be an alibi and we won’t use it now,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Lazio still put in a strong performance and did not deserve to lose, but this is football and it is unforgiving. We should’ve been more determined after taking the lead, but Ionut Radu played very well in the Genoa goal and I think he got his fingertips to it when Badelj hit the crossbar too.

“Genoa didn’t create much, but Criscito’s effort hit the upright and ricocheted in. We are here talking about a defeat, despite a strong performance. We were in control and ran so few risks until the final 15 minutes, so we deserved more, but this proves if you don’t kill games off, anything can happen.”

Lazio are the only Italian side to still be competing on three fronts and Inzaghi admits this could be an issue.

“I think from now to the end of the season we’ll be in a permanent state of emergency with injuries.”
