Simone Inzaghi insists Lazio can compete at the top end of Serie A after a 6-1 demolition of Sassuolo.

The Biancocelesti looked set to go in behind at half time, trailing to Domenico Berardi’s penalty, but Luis Alberto equalised and they went on to score five unanswered second half goals.

“To Sassuolo’s credit, the first half was difficult,” Inzaghi commented after seeing his side move onto 16 points from their opening seven matches of the season.

“To Sassuolo’s credit, the first half was difficult,” Inzaghi commented after seeing his side move onto 16 points from their opening seven matches of the season.

“We made certain mistakes but I was confident. The team responded well despite it being the ninth game in 21 days.

“Now we will enjoy the break in order to recuperate our energy.”

Lazio face a daunting trip to champions Juventus following the international break but their Coach is convinced they can repeat their Supercoppa victory back in August.

“Juventus? We know we will have to play a very difficult match but we want points.

“We have shown we can beat them with quality and quantity.”

Inzaghi added that despite Lazio’s congested fixture schedule, which includes the Europa League, his team will strive to compete in all competitions.

“We wanted to be in the Europa League with all our efforts and we will try to honour it.

“It takes a lot out of you and after the break we will have another important cycle of matches.

“This squad has shown it can compete with our rivals. We want to stay up there for as long as possible.”
