Simone Inzaghi maintains Inter ‘made it look easier than it was’ in their 2-0 Champions League victory away to Viktoria Plzen and praises his players amid squad rotation.

The Nerazzurri badly needed a result here after losing the opener 2-0 at home to Bayern Munich.

Edin Dzeko broke the deadlock with an angled drive, then set up Denzel Dumfries to seal their 2-0 victory in the Czech Republic.

“We are happy, because we knew that our opponents were not to be under-estimated, as no Italian team had ever won in Plzen before,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.

“The lads did well and remained concentrated. We knew it was going to be a tough start to this season, especially with injuries, but the team is improving with match fitness as time goes on.

“Romelu Lukaku will be back after the break for international duty, then I can choose on a game by game basis who to pick in attack. We need everyone this season.”

Former Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi was given his debut in the Inter jersey, playing from the start in the Czech Republic.

“He did very well, it wasn’t easy, but he’s a player I know well and he can give us a big hand. The important thing is that the lads all know there is competition between them for places, that everyone can get a chance and they will all be involved.”

This victory puts them in third place in the group, awaiting the head-to-head between Bayern Munich and Barcelona tonight.

“These are two of the best teams in the world right now. We know what we’re up against and the objective today was to bring home the points. We made it seem much easier than it really was, as no Italian had ever won in Plzen before.”

Viktoria Plzen oddly started to play better and create more chances after going down to 10 men.

“The red card was an advantage for us, naturally, but until that point we were dominating the match anyway and the only thing we did wrong was only being 1-0 up.”
