Simone Inzaghi defended Lazio’s squad rotation after a 2-0 win over Parma and explained the row with Ciro Immobile. “He had to let it out.”

The Biancocelesti drew the Derby with Roma, then lost two on the bounce with SPAL and Cluj, but got back on track at the Olimpico this evening.

“We were coming off two really painful defeats, as we dominated against SPAL for 70 minutes and I thought it was a fluke, one in a hundred. The same thing happened three days later and that made me reflect,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We made some adjustments and were sharper, as we forced 13 Luigi Sepe saves and created so many chances. Obviously, you have more time to prepare in the first two rounds of the season, it becomes more difficult with a game every three days, so I’ll have to choose more carefully from one game to the next.

“A Coach has to evaluate what he sees in training. I was criticised for making changes against SPAL, then in Romania, but it is my duty to evaluate the training sessions, see how they work throughout the week and make my decisions.

“We returned from Romania on Friday at dawn, so it wasn’t easy and I needed to rotate.”

Immobile scored, but was then furious at his substitution, ranting and waving his arms all the way round the pitch on his way back to the bench.

“It was a little obvious, but Ciro is one of those who feels disappointing results with the most pain. He had a slight problem in the first half, so I thought it best not to risk it.

“He had to let it out, I let him ferment a little and then when he got to the bench, I told him that would do. He’ll realise when he sees it back that it was excessive, but the last few days have not been easy for any of us. There’s no problem between us.”
