The Inzaghi brothers have made Italian football history by becoming the first two coaches in the same family to sit atop both Serie A and B concurrently.

Older brother Pippo, in charge of Benevento, has long been sitting top of the Serie B table, as his Benevento side are 17 points clear of second-placed Frosinone.

The unique statistic was achieved when Simone’s Lazio beat Bologna 2-0 yesterday and went top of the Serie A table, sitting ahead of Juventus by a single point.

The unique statistic was achieved when Simone’s Lazio beat Bologna 2-0 yesterday and went top of the Serie A table, sitting ahead of Juventus by a single point.

It’s also the first time the Biancocelesti have been the top team in Serie A in February since 1999, under Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Pippo’s Benevento meanwhile, are the first side in the history of Serie B to have reached 63 points from their first 26 games.

The Inzaghi brothers never played together at club level, but they did share the stage with the Italian national side, briefly.

In November 2000, the duo played for the Azzurri in a friendly against England at the Stadio delle Alpi, and shared the same pitch for 11 minutes.

Simone came on as a replacement for Marco Delvecchio in the 61st minute, whilst Pippo, who started, was replaced by Alessandro Del Piero in the 72nd.

Italy won the game thanks to a goal from Rino Gattuso.

It was Simone’s second cap for Italy, and he would only gain a further one.
