Milan Coach Filippo Inzaghi was ‘pleased’ with victory over Sassuolo and praises Giampaolo Pazzini and Alessio Cerci.

Il Diavolo prevailed over the Neroverdi 2-1 yesterday, with goals from Pazzini and Nigel de Jong. The game also saw new signing Cerci play 82 minutes until he was replaced by Riccardo Montolivo.

“We have forwards with different characteristics,” said Inzaghi in his Press conference after the match.

“Pazzini played a great game, as did the team as a whole. They reacted well.

“We never took risks. [Goalkeeper Christian] Abbiati was never challenged. In the second half the ref called a penalty against us that did not exist, but the team reacted well.

“I'm pleased, it's an important victory. We must go back to playing with calmness, even if negative days can happen. Now we must restore our energy and come back with a good performance in Serie A.”

Speculation continues to surround Pazzini’s future at San Siro.

“We have a lot of quality upfront, unfortunately I can't use them all. I'll have to make the most of their potential.

“I am not fazed by criticism, but I'm sorry to read things about us that are false. I see my boys always doing well in training.

“We had a challenging week, but now we're recovering all of our squad and there have been positive signs as early as tonight.

“This team always showed character. Against Torino we played poorly in the first half, but played with character after the break.”

The new signings and the recovery of players from injury meant that Milan changed some starters, but Inzaghi was happy about the way the team is looking now.

“We played two months without the two full-backs of the national team. Ignazio [Abate] can lend us a big hand when he's in this kind of form. He did very well [yesterday].”

“Cerci's performance did not surprise me. I've been asking for him since June because he has unique skills.

“I wanted to play him for 60 minutes today, because I could see he had energy in his legs and was in a good condition. He must keep this up, he came here with humility and I liked that.

“[Mattia] De Sciglio was playing the best game of his season, but unfortunately he had a new problem with his foot.

“[Sulley] Muntari will have some medical checks tomorrow, while [Michael] Essien had a problem in his usual toe, but he should be there next Sunday.”
