Simone Inzaghi felt the extraordinary 4-3 victory away to Fiorentina when 2-0 down was “our biggest win of the season.”

It was a bizarre night at the Stadio Franchi, with both teams reduced to 10 men in the opening 15 minutes, then controversy, penalties, a Jordan Veretout hat-trick and eventually the Aquile turning it around.

“We showed heart and clear-headedness in the key moments of the match,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We showed heart and clear-headedness in the key moments of the match,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I got tense too and was sent off when it was 2-0, although I hadn’t offended the officials, I merely asked for some clarification. I have extraordinary collaborators and they knew what to do, so I am very happy.

“Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson caused a lot of problems for the Fiorentina defence. This was our 50th competitive game of the season, but the lads are in good physical shape and continue to do remarkable things.

“This victory was probably our biggest win of the season, considering how things were going. However, I was stunned to see very few people tip Lazio for a place even in the top eight at the start of the campaign, because I knew there was quality in this team.”

The result keeps them in joint third place alongside Roma, still one point ahead of Inter.
