As such, the San Siro club are now looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Chilean midfielder Vidal is the Nerazzurri’s number one target, with Chelsea’s Bakayoko an alternative.

According to speculation this week, Vidal’s club Bayern Munich would be prepared to allow the 31-year-old to leave provided the offer is right.

And although no formal bid has been submitted, the Nerazzurri are said to be confident of a fee being agreed.

In the event this falls through, however, it is believed Inter would try to sign Bakayoko from the English club.

The Frenchman only joined the London side last summer, for a fee of €42m, but he struggled in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

It is believed that as well as a permanent deal, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio would be open to the possibility of signing the 23-year-old on a season long loan.
