Inter will have to do without midfielder Marcelo Brozovic for their upcoming blockbuster clash with Napoli.

The 30-year-old Croatian appeared in all but one of his nation’s games at the World Cup in Qatar, only sitting out of the third place play-off against Morocco. Brozovic quietly performed well at the tournament but limped off in their semi-final match with Argentina, causing concern in the Lombardy capital.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Brozovic again trained separately from his Inter teammates in Appiano Gentile, ruling him out of the upcoming game with Napoli on Wednesday January 4. His absence will be a painful blow for Simone Inzaghi, who’ll likely deploy Henrikh Mkhitaryan in his place.

Before the World Cup, Brozovic missed five consecutive league matches due to a hamstring injury, only making brief cameo appearances in November ahead of the tournament.

The Croatian midfielder has scored two goals in 10 Serie A appearances this campaign.
