Inter defender Benjamin Pavard will undergo medical examinations on Monday, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the France international could remain out of action for six to eight weeks unless he undergoes surgery, making his recovery time even longer.

The former Bayern Munich defender was subbed off after 30 minutes in an eventual 2-1 win over Atalanta on Saturday due to a knee injury.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pavard will undergo medical tests on Monday to determine the extent of his injury and learn how long he’ll be forced to the sidelines.

The report claims Pavard could remain out of action for six to eight weeks if his knee problem can be solved with conservative treatment. In this case, the 2018 France World Cup winner would not return to action before 2024.

If the injury is more severe and requires surgery, then Pavard will remain out of action for a longer time.

The 27-year-old joined Inter from Bayern Munich in a €30m deal last summer, signing a contract until 2028.

Simone Inzaghi said after the game on Saturday that the Nerazzurri will likely lose their new defender “for a while.”
