According to this morning’s Corriere dello Sport, CEO Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio intend to focus their attention on midfield for next season.

One of the names on the shortlist is Real Madrid star Kroos, who has a release clause of €300m.

While the Beneamata have no intention of paying that, there could be a major changing of the guard at the Bernabeu in the summer and the German could become available.

The other name is Lazio’s Milinkovic-Savic, who Marotta was interested in during his time at Juventus.

The Serbian was valued at €150m last summer, but an indifferent season so far has seen his value fall.

However, Biancocelesti President Claudio Lotito is known for driving a hard bargain and Milinkovic-Savic still wouldn’t come cheap.

A deal for either player won’t be easy, but SMS remains the more likely target as his salary demands would be lower.
