The Curva Nord – where the hard-line Nerazzurri fans usually sit – had been closed due to ‘discriminatory’ anti-Neapolitan chants.
However, the club won an appeal to have the ban suspended until there could be further debate and investigation into the matter.
“We are satisfied with the decision. This implies our appeal was worthy of further discussion,” director general Fassone told Sky Sport Italia.
“What still didn’t work was the disproportionate locking out of 8,000 fans in response to a few who away from home proffered discriminatory chants.
“It is the not the first time a ban like this has been suspended, which means the rule is difficult to interpret. The Lega Serie A ought to bring in some concrete and realistic solutions, that are not hypocritical and do not damage the clubs.
“It is a problem that needs to be faced. We must find solutions that are congruous.”
The tactic of closing down only parts of the stadium was already introduced mid-season after clubs and supporters complained entire games were played behind closed doors in response to the actions of only a few dozen spectators.
