The Germans have a good chance of qualifying after their 1-0 victory at San Siro, but their Bundesliga form has been appalling.

Today's 3-1 defeat to Hannover left them in fourth place and a good seven points adrift of second.

"This is the absolute low point of the season," declared chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "We've just had eight catastrophic days.

"We are all bitterly disappointed but we have been around long enough to take a night digesting it.

"I do not think anyone will sleep tonight. We are in a situation where everyone at Bayern Munich is very concerned."

It is reported Van Gaal could be fired over the weekend and replaced with Matthias Sammer.
