Inter have stated they are “favourable” towards Milan’s proposal of turning the San Siro turf into a hybrid artificial-natural surface.

The state of the pitch is again in the headlines after Barcelona complained in the Champions League quarter-final.

Both clubs pay to re-lay the turf several times a year, but it is not enough to keep it in decent condition when there are two games per week.

Milan have suggested installing a hybrid surface, with a synthetic base and natural grass on top, which is already used at the Milanello training ground.

“We are favourable to this hypothesis. As far as we are concerned, it is possible,” said Pierfrancesco Barletta, Inter’s representative in the M-I Stadio Srl company that maintains the venue.

“However, we need to consider the timing of transforming the pitch.”
