The Nerazzurri, who won the Scudetto, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in 2010, have had a tough start to the season.

They replaced boss Gian Piero Gasperini with Claudio Ranieri in September and are currently 17th in Serie A with just eight points.

“Does our squad need rejuvenating? Two years ago we had a side with many ‘old’ players and yet we still won everything,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“At this moment in time we are going through a difficult patch because of injuries. We’re always playing with the same players and it’s tough to be at our best with a game every three days.

“We’ll have to wait and see if anyone arrives in the January transfer window, but I have faith in this squad as it is.

“Ranieri is also the right man for Inter.”

The Dutch international was then questioned on the possibility of Manchester City ace Mario Balotelli returning to San Siro.

“Balotelli is a player of great quality,” added the former Real Madrid playmaker. “I always did well alongside him.

“But he is doing some good things at Manchester City and I don’t know whether he would come back to us.”
