Frank de Boer was fired this morning, but Inter seem no closer to finding a replacement, as Vitor Pereira and Andrea Mandorlini join Stefano Pioli in the running.

The club is in chaos, as the tactician was sacked after losing half of his 14 competitive games in charge.

Ex-Lazio boss Pioli was widely expected to take over, but today it emerged there were different factions within the club pushing for alternative names.

It’s reported Vice-President Javier Zanetti is pushing for Pioli, Chinese owners Suning want a more glamorous name and super-agent Kia Joorabchian is suggesting Vitor Pereira.

Pioli flew back early from vacation today, fuelling speculation he is in negotiations with Inter, but in the meanwhile Primavera youth team Coach Stefano Vecchi will be on the bench for Thursday’s Europa League trip to Southampton and at this rate also Sunday’s Serie A encounter with Crotone.

Sky Sport Italia claim Suning representatives will fly in to Milan on Friday and meet with Pioli to make a final decision.

Other potential options include former Chelsea Coach Guus Hiddink, ex-Villarreal boss Marcelino and Andre Villas-Boas.

It’s worth noting that Villas-Boas was assistant manager to Jose Mourinho at Inter.

Former Inter player Riccardo Ferri suggests his old teammate Mandorlini should be the favourite.

“He knows the club and many of the people currently working there, so that would make it easier for him. I talked to him and he’s absolutely ready for this.

“I know he’s in close contact with director general Gardini, as they were at Verona together.”
