Inter have reportedly missed out on Pepe as Marca claims Paris Saint-Germain have “definitely signed” the Real Madrid defender.

The newspaper states Unai Emery’s “firm” desire for Pepe was key to the “unexpected move”, which will see the Portuguese pen a two-year contract with PSG.

The development comes after the 34-year-old rejected an offer from Chinese club Hebei Fortune and was said to be closing in on a free transfer to Inter, with only Suning Group’s signature missing.

The development comes after the 34-year-old rejected an offer from Chinese club Hebei Fortune and was said to be closing in on a free transfer to Inter, with only Suning Group’s signature missing.

However, Marca reports Emery instructed PSG to step up their efforts once Pepe’s interest in the Nerazzurri became known.

Consequently, a “final agreement” between the centre-back’s agent Jorge Mendes and the French giants was reached on Saturday in Cardiff, just hours before the Champions League Final.
