Inter have been following Sampdoria midfielder Morten Thorsby for some time now and they could look to secure his signature this month.

The Nerazzurri are already in talks with the Ligurian side regarding Stefano Sensi, with the Milanese club wanting to find somewhere for the Italian midfielder to get regular playing time, and these talks could expand to include Thorsby as well.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the possible departure of Sensi would not be enough to create the necessary conditions to allow Inter to sign a new midfielder, as coach Simone Inzaghi already has Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Roberto Gagliardini, Arturo Vidal and Matias Vecino for the department.

A move for Thorsby could become viable if Vecino leaves the club as well, however. The Uruguayan midfielder recently rejected an offer from Flamengo but he is appreciated by Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri, so he could leave the Lombardy capital six months early. Should this happen, Inter would have sufficient space to make a move for the 25-year-old Sampdoria midfielder.

Thorsby’s contract expires with Sampdoria in June 2023 and he could be signed for a low-cost deal in the summer, with Napoli and some Premier League clubs keen on him. Inter, however, may look to jump in for the Norwegian midfielder this month, beating out their competition. This would only work if Sampdoria agreed to a loan deal with a buy option attached.

  1. There we are again… Samp buy a player, make him better, then sell him. The story of their life since the Enrico Mantovani days. I know it’s business, but surely Samp will have greater chances of success of they could keep quality players for longer?
