Joao Mario is on the verge of a transfer from Sporting CP for around €45m, spread out over a loan with mandatory option to buy, and should fly in for his medical on Monday.

Other reinforcement options include Brazilian Lucas Leiva, who is struggling for playing time at Liverpool and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has been at Liverpool since 2007, ever since he left Gremio to continue his career in Europe.

Diarra is already 31 years old and only joined Olympique Marseille a year ago as a free agent.

He managed one goal in 25 Ligue 1 appearances last term for the French side.
