Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will make the final assessments of his squad on Tuesday morning ahead of the game against Porto, with Milan Skriniar in contention to be involved for the Nerazzurri for the first time since February.

The influential Slovakian centre-back has been absent from the Inter squad for over two weeks after picking up an injury to the lower back in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Skriniar was not involved with the squad for any of their most recent games against Spezia, Lecce and Bologna, during which time Inter only mustered up one win and two losses.

Matteo Darmian has been deputising in Inter’s back three whilst Skriniar has been sidelined.

There are hopes that the 28-year-old might be able to feature against Porto at the Estadio do Dragao, in what is arguably Inter’s most important game of the season so far.

Skriniar, however, only trained with the rest of the team for the first time since his injury on Monday afternoon.

Whilst speaking during his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, Inzaghi provided an update on Skriniar’s availability.

He said: “Skriniar has been out for two and a half weeks, today he did his first full group training. I know what he has done to be available for this match. He hasn’t been able to train since the first leg. He’s a high-quality player, but he’s been off for 15 days.”

The potential return of Skriniar could provide Inter’s defensive unit with a much needed boost in confidence heading into the second leg against Porto.

The Nerazzurri lead 1-0 heading into Tuesday night’s encounter, which kicks off at 20.00 GMT.
