Inter have met Giorgio Scalvini’s agents and are optimistic about striking a deal for the 19-year-old starlet despite Atalanta’s asking price of €40m, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Biscione have been in touch with Atalanta ‘for weeks’ now, as they believe the Italian centre-back would be the ideal player to rejuvenate their defensive department also considering that Danilo D’Ambrosio, Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar’s contracts run out in June 2023.

However, according to Gazzetta, Atalanta’s asking price is in the region of €40m.

In order to lower La Dea’s demands, Inter could consider including their youngster Giovanni Fabbian in the deal and value him circa €14m.

The 19-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at Serie B side Reggina and he’s been impressing under coach Filippo Inzaghi, scoring five goals from 18 games.

La Rosea reports that Scalvini is Inter’s priority for next season, but Beppe Marotta knows it is crucial to move fast in order to fend off competition, as Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are also interested in the youngster.

Scalvini has made his professional debut for Atalanta in 2021 and has seen his playing time improve lately. Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini made the most of his versatility, fielding him both as centre-back and central midfielder. The 19-year-old has made 11 Serie A appearances this term, scoring one goal.
