The Romanian is free to talk to interested clubs about a summer move given that his contract is set to expire in June.

It was believed that he was looking to join a new outfit over his unhappiness at being constantly used as a left-back, but he seems intent on pledging his future to the Nerazzurri.

“Staying at Inter is our priority,” Giovanni Becali told Il Sussidiario. “We have great respect for Inter, President Massimo Moratti and director Marco Branca.

“We’ll certainly meet up with Inter before the end of this month – we just have to find a date that suits us and Branca.”

Chivu, 31, is a versatile defender who can play as a centre-back – his preferred position – or on the left of defence.

He joined Inter in 2007 after spells at Roma and Ajax. He’s been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Milan.
