A number of young Italian talents have moved to the English Premier League from Serie A youth teams, including Giuseppe Rossi, Arturo Lupoli and Federico Macheda.

Speaking to Radio Punto Zero, Insigne’s representative says his client could have followed a similar path, but preferred to remain in Naples.

“Insigne has always been a symbol for the Azzurri, even in the youth teams,” Fabio Andreotti pointed out.

“When he wasn’t yet under contract there were English teams who would have showered him with money, but he chose to stay at Napoli.

“He made the same choice after a year at Pescara, when there were so many teams interested. His is a nice story to tell.”

The Partenopei face a top-of-the-table showdown with Inter next Monday, and Andreotti admits he’s looking forward to the game.

“It’s a game which fascinates me. I want to see how [Inter Coach Roberto] Mancini approaches it at San Siro, and how [Napoli Coach Maurizio] Sarri studies Inter.”
