Edin Dzeko’s brace and Mohamed Salah secured a 3-1 result at the Stadio San Paolo, sending the Giallorossi into second place.

“We were unlucky, as Roma were closed up at the back and countered with Salah, but it could’ve ended differently,” Insigne told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“The incidents went against us. Maurizio Sarri works very hard on defensive movements, but today we lacked determination and from the front weren’t pressing well.

“It was intense and difficult to breathe also because of the humidity, but we mustn’t look for alibis. I think this defeat cannot be decisive, because there are so many rounds left this season.”

Gabbiadini made little impact as a centre-forward replacing injured Arkadiusz Milik and was jeered off the field when substituted by Dries Mertens.

“It was disappointing to see Gabbiadini jeered, as he doesn’t deserve that. He always gave everything for the team and the fans. We are close to him and hope the fans will do the same.

“Now we have to focus on Besiktas, as if we win that, we can secure qualification for the next round of the Champions League.”
