Napoli ultras were incredibly unimpressed with their squad following the Scudetto collapse and they gave Lorenzo Insigne a strange gift at yesterday’s protest.

The Partenopei fans were seen yesterday outside the Palazzo Caracciolo hotel in Naples, where the squad were staying ahead of the clash against Sassuolo, chanting and protesting due to recent poor results. A banner was held up which read: “The omelette is done, unworthy.”

As reported by Corriere del Mezzogiorno, Insigne tried to calm down the Lazio ultras yesterday, assuring them of the team’s commitment and personal frustrations following the failed title challenge.

In response, the ultras gave him a packet of eggs, telling him to deliver them to his teammates. The gift references the banner, essentially saying that Napoli have made their bed and now must lie in it.

Napoli responded to the protest on the pitch, picking up a thrilling 6-1 win to restore some confidence following a run of poor form. It’s come a little to late for Luciano Spalletti’s side, however, and the Scudetto race is now between Milan and Inter.
