Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne is steadily improving in the race against time to be ready for Saturday’s Champions League decider with Barcelona.

The forward limped off in pain after a groin injury during the final minutes of the closing Serie A fixture with Lazio at the weekend.

An initial diagnosis found no serious lesions, but bruising to the tendon connecting the thigh to the bone represents the most painful aspect.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Insigne is intensifying his training routine in a bid to test his fitness levels.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll start the match at Camp Nou on Saturday evening, but it looks increasingly as if he’ll at the very least be available as a substitute.

There will be another scan today, then an all-important training test on Friday.

The first leg of this Round of 16 ended 1-1 at the Stadio San Paolo in February, so Napoli must score to have any hope of going through.
