Former Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler insists “it’s not over for the Scudetto”, ahead of Sundays’ showdown with Juventus.

The Partenopei are six points behind Massimiliano Allegri’s side, and face Udinese tonight before travelling to Turin at the weekend.

“They play beautiful football and it’s not over for the Scudetto,” Inler told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s a lot of points, but there’s still the head-to-head game. The fans deserve this title.

“It’s a lot of points, but there’s still the head-to-head game. The fans deserve this title.

“Udinese? It’s an important match for both teams. Sarri can’t give up for the Scudetto, while Udinese want to stop a long run of defeats. No predictions though, may the best team win.”

Inler left Napoli to join Leicester in the summer of 2015, and he reflected on his departure.

“I was sorry to leave, Naples is a city I’ve always loved. The Coach [Maurizio Sarri] is strong and I’d have liked to work with him, but we wrote history with Leicester. What we did with Ranieri will remain forever.

“President Aurelio De Laurentiis? The results speak for him, the growth is evident and he’s paying attention to the budget. That said…

“I’d have expected more gratitude when I left. A ‘thank you’ at the very least. I tried to call him and got no answer.

“That also happened to a lot of my former teammates.”
