Empoli confirm Riccardo Saponara will remain in January, “but it’ll be almost impossible to keep our stars in June.”

The Tuscans have won their last three Serie A games and are sitting comfortably in mid-table despite losing midfielder Mirko Valdifiori and Coach Maurizio Sarri to Napoli.

Saponara has been a revelation since returning from a disappointing spell at Milan, attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

Saponara has been a revelation since returning from a disappointing spell at Milan, attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

“We know that in January nobody will leave and we won’t even discuss terms with anybody,” director of sport Marcello Carli told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’ll be more difficult to keep him and the others in June. In January the objective is to get through the transfer session without damaging the team.

“Admittedly, it’ll be almost impossible to keep our stars in June.”
