Ciro Immobile has slammed the “lies” from his spell with Borussia Dortmund as Gianluigi Buffon “is still better than Manuel Neuer” ahead of Italy-Germany.

Immobile was accused by the German Press of having no respect for locals during his stay at Dortmund and not attempting to learn the language, but the Lazio striker insists he was not a failure for BVB, instead pointing to problems in the dressing room.

“Dortmund? I didn’t think my season was bad. There were problems in the dressing room. It wasn’t the Dortmund I knew,” he told Kicker.

“The situation was difficult for even the Germans there, let alone an Italian that had just arrived.

“I scored four goals in the Champions League, but I could’ve given more. I’m sorry for how it ended.

“That I disturbed my neighbours early in the morning and my wife and I refused to learn German are all lies.

“German is difficult to learn, but with Klopp at least there was a translator. Tuchel froze me out and it was difficult to understand.”

Immobile then looked to Italy’s friendly against Germany on Tuesday, their first meeting since Euro 2016.

“Italy-Germany? At the European Championship, the defeat was hard to take,” he added.

“It was the biggest disappointment of my life and took me days to get over.

“It’s too bad because we were on the same level as [Germany]. We’ll see how the friendly goes, but we have Buffon, who’s still better than Neuer.”
