Ciro Immobile says that he ‘will be ready’ if called upon to start for Italy at the World Cup, but that either way, he will respect Cesare Prandelli’s choices.

The newly-transferred Borussia Dortmund striker staked his claim for a starting spot in the Azzurri’s opening Group D match with England next weekend with a hat-trick and two assists in a practice match against Fluminense on Sunday night.

“I was emotional after the first goal, let alone the hat-trick,” began Immobile after yesterday evening’s outing.

“I am a striker and obviously live to score goals. Scoring is always important, even in games that are not official.

“But now comes the fun, we have to be ready for the game against England.

“Will I play on Saturday? This is decided solely by the Coach, I accept all of his choices. When he calls me, I will be ready.

“If he plays Balotelli then it will mean that he considered this right. I can only do my best and carve out my space.

“How about with Mario? I think so, but I do not make the decisions. Prandelli decides and his choices are not to be discussed.”
