Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne played together in Italy training today, while Marco Verratti returned to action.

The young Paris Saint Germain midfielder had missed the last two days of the Azzurri’s pre-World Cup preparations with fever, but played a full part in Cesare Prandelli’s Wednesday morning session.

However, the most notable aspect of the session was the line-up used by Prandelli in a practise match at the end of training.

Dortmund’s Immobile and Napoli’s Insigne, who both impressed during the Azzurri’s friendly win over Fluminense on Sunday, took their places alongside the likes of experienced players Andrea Pirlo, Giorgio Chiellini and Daniele De Rossi.

In a 4-3-3 formation, Insigne and Antonio Candreva supported Immobile in attack, who played in place of Mario Balotelli.

While this of course does not guarantee that the duo will line-up against England, it suggests that the possibility is very much in Prandelli’s thinking.
