Ciro Immobile and Nicolò Zaniolo did not take part in the final training session for Italy and are in doubt for tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.

It kicks off on Wednesday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio-Emilia.

Immobile had started both fixtures against Bulgaria and Switzerland, which ended in stalemates, but was criticised by the media for not finding the net.

The Lazio striker skipped today’s training session due to a muscular issue and is unlikely to start tomorrow.

Among the candidates to replace him in the starting XI was Zaniolo, who came off the bench as a False 9 against Switzerland.

However, the Roma man was also not in this evening’s session after a knock to the left thigh he sustained in Sunday’s 0-0 draw in Basel.

Marco Verratti and Lorenzo Pellegrini are already ruled out, having left the squad on Monday to return to their clubs due to small fitness issues.
