The Nerazzurri captain was at the Premio Gentleman in Milan, which rewards fair play in football, and he confirmed his enthusiasm for a hot transfer target.

“Never mind welcoming Toure with open arms,” he said. “I'll go myself to Manchester to pick him up!

“He's a champion, a star, a winner. Great champions are always well received.”

The 27-year-old also had the opportunity to discuss the Nerazzurri's chances of qualifying for next year's Europa League, with only two games left to go in Serie A.

“Our hope is still there, our drive all the more so. Ahead of us, it seems like they're holding back and waiting for us, so we can no longer afford to fail.

“We can conquer six points, while hoping that a few other results also go our way.”
