The Champions League showdown kicks off on Wednesday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) at Camp Nou.

“I am very happy in Milan, very happy at Inter, my family is happy here and I have no need nor desire right now to leave,” said the Argentine in his Press conference.

“Playing for Barcelona’s academy was a very important time for me and my career, as I learned a great deal here. I started my career here and facing them as a player in the Champions League is undoubtedly special and exciting.

“However, when I had the chance to come to Italy with Sampdoria, I didn’t need to think twice. It was the right decision for me and my representatives.”

Icardi has been linked with many clubs in recent years, including Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

“There are always offers, but I am happy at Milan and very calm. I have the opportunity to play in the Champions League, I am captain and I want to get even stronger here. I feel like I’m asked to repeat this every day…”

Luis Suarez singled out his fellow Uruguay international Matias Vecino as a key player for Inter and Icardi agrees.

“Vecino is a fundamental player for us, as he runs hard, keeps the ball and contributes both going forward and defending.

“We know Barcelona’s quality, but also know our potential and capabilities, so we prepare for them in the same way we do any other game.”

Icardi was asked what his reaction was to news Lionel Messi was going to miss this fixture due to a fractured arm.

“We know Messi is the best player in the world and I personally felt it was sad he won’t be against us tomorrow, because it’s always great to face the best.

“Having said that, I imagine my teammates in defence are happy about it and we’ll try to take advantage!”
