Mauro Icardi was on target as Inter earned a 1-1 friendly draw away to Hamburg this afternoon.

The first real test of the summer for Walter Mazzarri’s men was at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg and got off to the best possible start.

Icardi broke the deadlock after just 73 seconds when he surprised Drobny to get on the end of a splendid Fredy Guarin cross from the right.

Samir Handanovic needed a fine save to deny Rudnevs from close range and Juan Jesus stopped Rafael Van der Vaart turning in the rebound, while the goalkeeper was again called to keep out Arslan.

Hamburg poured forward, as Jiracek nodded just wide and the hosts drew level straight after the restart. Rudnevs anticipated substitute Marco Andreolli to meet Arslan’s cross.

Ishak Belfodil came off the bench and saw both his shot and the Ricky Alvarez follow-up charged down.

Rodrigo Palacio’s header was parried from point-blank range and the same fate befell Hugo Campagnaro.

Handanovic was also kept busy by Badelj following a mistake in the final third, while in stoppages Belfodil hesitated when sent clear by Jonathan.
