Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is thrown straight into the starting XI for Sweden’s World Cup qualifier away to Georgia.

He had been recalled to international duty for the UEFA EURO 2020 campaign before pulling out due to knee surgery.

Turning 40 last month, Ibrahimovic has struggled to get back into shape this season, making just eight appearances between Serie A and the Champions League amid muscular and Achilles tendon issues.

He nonetheless managed to score three goals and provide two assists for the Rossoneri.

Considering the relative lack of playing time and the risk of aggravating the Achilles tendon again, it is somewhat surprising to see him in the starting XI.

Now Ibrahimovic is making his 119th appearance in the Sweden jersey, so far contributing 62 goals.

Zlatan made his debut in a 0-0 draw with the Faroe Islands on January 31, 2001.

His most recent appearance for Sweden was the 3-0 World Cup qualifier away to Kosovo on March 28, 2021.
