Zlatan Ibrahimovic declares “Italy is my second home, but I want to challenge for the Scudetto. I can still make the difference. I’m not a zoo animal to be put on display.”

The LA Galaxy striker will be a free agent when his contract with the MLS club expires in December and he is eager for a return to Serie A.

“I am 38 years old and have the enthusiasm of a kid, with that same desire to win. That, for me, is everything,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I am not yet thinking about my future, as I will evaluate with my family. In order to continue playing, I need something special that can keep that fire burning within me, whether it’s here or elsewhere."

Zlatan has been linked with a return to Manchester United, but he seems to be looking further back into his CV for inspiration.

“Italy is my second home. I will listen to all offers, but I want to fight for the maximum target. If I were to come back, I’d want to challenge for the Scudetto, not just be signed by someone because I am Ibrahimovic.

“I can still make the difference. I’m not a zoo animal to be put on display for people to see. I can still get 20 goals in Serie A.”

Yet Zlatan still brings the showmanship to everything he does.

“At the age of 30, I started working maniacally on my body to maintain my condition. Note, I said ‘maintain’, I did not say ‘to become better.’ That’s impossible, I can’t get better than this!

“There is only one Zlatan Ibrahimovic and there will never be another.”

He hasn’t yet entirely decided what he’ll do after his playing career does finally come to an end.

“After I’ve hung up my boots, I want an important role, where I have responsibilities and the power to make decisions. I could even become a Coach, but there’s a lot of stress. You age 10 years in one season. Plus, I wouldn’t be able to get on the pitch and make the difference, if needed…

“I still have a couple of months to decide, the important thing is to be in good shape.”
