Zlatan Ibrahimovic concedes Milan “didn’t put in a great performance, but Inter focused only on defending themselves.”

The Rossoneri had 67 per cent of the possession in Sunday night’s clash, but were still beaten 1-0 by a Diego Milito strike.

“We didn’t put in a great performance, especially as we were unable to get many shots on target,” he told Swedish newspaper Sportbladet.

“We always had the ball at our feet, but struggled to become dangerous with it. In any case, I got the feeling Inter stepped on to the field looking only to defend themselves. They sat and waited for our mistake to punish us. It worked.

“I didn’t get much service and at one stage decided to stay more within the penalty area. We lost, but are still five points ahead of Inter in the table.

“I do not consider the derby to be a decisive match, as there are so many more to come. The key was that Inter defended and Milan didn’t play their best game in attack. You can’t perform at 100 per cent all the time.”

The result ended their 12-round unbeaten Serie A run.
