The Partenopei are Campione d’Inverno for the first time since 1989-90, when they went on to win the Scudetto.

“Being winter champions doesn’t matter, it’s better to win the title at the end,” Hysaj told Supersport in his native Albania.

“Of course being top puts pressure on us, but we can’t get distracted by the euphoria of the fans. We have to take it one game at a time, regardless of being first or second.”

Hysaj has displaced Christian Maggio at right-back for the Vesuviani, and admits he didn’t expect to have such a key role in Maurizio Sarri’s team.

“Coming to Napoli was a gamble, I’m someone who likes to play. When I signed in the summer, I never thought I’d have a season like this.

“I’ve improved a lot defensively, because I’m training with quality players like [Dries] Mertens, [Lorenzo] Insigne and [Gonzalo] Higuain.

“It’s been hard to earn a role as a starter, because Maggio is a great champion and has played for Napoli for many years.

“I still haven’t reached the top, I have to keep working hard, and I hope I’ll never stop doing that.”
