Atalanta are open to selling Matteo Pessina this summer with Monza keen on a move, and they have a plan to avoid paying Milan a future re-sale clause.

The Italian midfielder joined the Bergamo side in 2017 from Milan in a swap deal with Andrea Conti, and part of that deal included a future re-sale clause that could see the Rossoneri earn as much as 50% of a possible fee. After a few loan spells, Pessina worked his way into Gian Piero Gasperini’s first team, but after a difficult campaign he could be sold.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Pessina’s future re-sale clause expires after his 100th appearance for Atalanta. He’s currently made 96, but there’s just enough time in August for this number to be reached.

If Atalanta sell the 25-year-old to Monza on the last day of the summer transfer window on September 1, after having played the first four games of the season (August 14, 21, 28 and 31), they would only have to pay Milan €3m, the amount he was valued at by the Rossoneri when the swap deal was carried out.

This would be a significant discount for la Dea, who would otherwise have to pay the Milanese club €7.5m.
