The current season of MLS ends in December, and while the transfer market doesn’t officially open until February, clubs could do a deal when the European transfer window opens in January.

The League operates a salary cap, but clubs can sign up to three “designated players” who earn above that cap.

Italian internationals Andrea Pirlo and Sebastian Giovinco are current designated players, playing at New York City and Toronto FC respectively.
