Higuain enjoyed three prolific seasons with Napoli as Edinson Cavani’s replacement but became vilified by the club’s supporters for his decision to join Serie A rivals Juventus over the summer, although he did not celebrate when scoring against the Partenopei in October.

“I was brought up in a certain way and had already decided before the game to react the way I did,” the striker told Corriere della Sera.
“It doesn’t mean that I didn’t want to win, but I’m a man who doesn’t forget what he did and what he received, and at Napoli they gave me a lot and made me grow.
“It was a sign of gratitude to the squad, Coach and fans. After the game, I celebrated with Juve because they also deserved it for the respect and love that they’re giving me.”
